sigh
I’m going to break my self imposed rule about not weighing in on this group any more having learned the hard way of the futility and counter productiveness of doing so.
The reason for that is to let others know of that unfortunate fact out of kindness to hopefully spare others the frustration and impotent rage that I experienced over and over and over again attempting get resolution to the many issues facing us as owners of lots at Abbecombec Ocean Village.
Yes, I am now totally cynical in this regard, despite years of can do, positive solution oriented, moving forward, consensus building efforts to address many of the issues.
For the newbies:
- Everyone knows of the problem you are about to post about.
- Spirited and often angry and eventually useless discussions have been conducted here many times already.
- There are often simple and doable solutions, but no one is willing to actually implement them especially if they require effort by someone, even when it’s someone else, or worse, requires money to be spent.
- There is a rampant, pervasive ‘I don’t give f*ck about anyone else’ attitude by certain owners unfortunately. While that is enraging to those of us who follow the rules, pay our fees, and want to preserve our community’s qualities that we bought here to enjoy, there appears to be nothing we can do about it. We’ve tried. Even HarbourEdge tried.
- Complaining about or to those people will only make you upset, and they will often argue with you that you are the a**hole, making you go apoplectic, flame out and get banned here. (ask me how I know)
- None of this will ever change and will only get worse and worse, and become absolutely impossible once HarbourEdge pulls out and we have to somehow organize ourselves for self government, at which time there will be total anarchy, unless a miracle occurs.
- Various sensible and well-intentioned efforts have been made in the past to prepare for that in advance that were met with either apathy, or inexplicably, anger, character assassination and threats. (ask me how I know)
- For those that think they can somehow do better, (and I wish you success truly) know that I was told it was useless and tried anyhow. I learned my lesson the hard way. The blowback was fierce and almost drove me to suicide.
- Despite my dire summary of past history, there is one notable exception. Brian McCourt is a super hero. He has never given up, and continues to work for us all despite constant disappointment, road blocks, personal attacks, and has achieved what little positive action has been realized. He should be made king.
- HarbourEdge, although it has the legal responsibility to govern the community, enforce the rules, etc. until they decide to pull out—we have none until then BTW, I paid a law firm $1000s to find out—does not care about any issue whatsoever and will do nothing and will typically ignore any attempts to communicate with them.
I have no advice or positive encouragement to give at this point. But I welcome any input that might change my mind. Hope springs eternal.
I’m am deeply sorry to write such a hopeless and cynical post. But there there are a few quotes that pertain to this situation which motivated me to do so:
‘Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.’
‘Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it.’
‘Forget it Jake, It’s Chinatown.’
Good luck to us all.
