Sunsets at Abbecombec are magical. Whether you’re on the beach or up on Astaak Point or in the marshes or wetlands, the nightly display of color and light both in the sky above and reflected on the water below will amaze and delight you. Continue reading “The Golden Hour”

Looking for an Angel
I’ve concluded that the only way to ensure that Abbecombec is managed properly and developed responsibly and that the common lands, the marshes and beaches, and the natural beauty those provide that makes it such a special place are preserved for the future is to buy it, or better yet find someone to buy it who has the means and desire to do so.
Thus I need an ‘angel,’ an investor not interested in making gobs of money, but instead committed to owning and preserving this special place as a legacy for future generations to enjoy. There is a good chance of making a good chunk of any investment back in time, and even turning a profit, but the main goal you must have is to make this place the best it can be, and ensure its preservation for the future. That will be our legacy to create together. Continue reading “Looking for an Angel”

Before & After
Last summer’s ‘work’ at the point was disappointing to say the least. My complaints and requests for explanation of why this was done and why the cut brush was not cleaned up had gone unanswered and unaddressed for months. When a reply was finally obtained it was unsatisfactory to say the least. It was claimed that no one else had complained and therefore they were fine with the outcome and the matter was considered closed.
I am livid. Not just because of the unneeded and permanent destruction of a beautiful and treasured resource but because of the initial stonewalling and finally their refusal to take responsibility or admit this is a tragic mess or even finish cleaning it up. Since they deemed it not a problem, they refused addressing how to avoid this again in the future by communicating with a designated owner’s rep beforehand as had been agreed.

Atmosphere
I’ve never studied yoga or meditation, but I believe I’ve heard that in order to achieve inner peace one must create the right atmosphere. Continue reading “Atmosphere”

Nova Scotia, A Love Song
Today I sought that feeling of sweet nostalgia you feel when looking back to that time when you first fell in love with someone…or even a place.
The summer and fall of 2014 was an exciting time of exploration and discovery for me in Nova Scotia. I found so many places that made me fall ever more in love with this magic land. I also documented my wanderings with my phone and that fall I collected some of my favorite photos of some special places on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia and made my first video slideshow. Day One
The First Day Back
August 21, 2014
Having discovered the beach the summer before, I was dismayed on returning in 2014 that a gate had been installed and resigned myself to no longer having access to drive in and check the surf or wander the beach.
But by the end of August the lure had become too strong, so I parked on the road and George and I began the long walk in… Continue reading “Day One”
Sunset at the Beach with George
Another oldie but goodie. Going back to September 15, 2014 while still living at the Jeddore cabin and being drawn to Abbecombec daily like a moth to a flame. Before I even dreamt of living there…
Featuring music by the quintessential Canadian folk-rock ensemble the Cowboy Junkies from their iconic first album, Trinity Sessions. Continue reading “Sunset at the Beach with George”
Farewell to Tarwathie
An oldie but a goodie.
My last photo shoot in Nova Scotia on October 15, 2014 set to Judy Collins’ immortal humpback whale accompanied version of ‘Farewell to Tarwathie.’ Her haunting voice and the whales’ plaintive song perfectly expressing the longing I now feel deep in my soul for my adopted home away from home.
Thanks to the music I chose, this one has over 60,000 views on YouTube. Continue reading “Farewell to Tarwathie”
